On hot summer days, people are searching for a relaxing place preferable on the water. Most beaches seem to be overcrowded already in springtime and early summer. That is why it is a better idea to spend the holidays inland and rather look for National Parks and lovely parks in cities to relax and rewind.

The Park at River Walk in Bakersfield, also known under the "River Walk Park" is such a lovely escape when visiting the city and looking for a place to sit down for a bit and enjoy nature. The park includes two lakes which are connected by a stream and right next to the famous Kern River.

The park has 32 acres of nature to offer for outdoor lovers. The River Walk Park is also the location of the Spectrum Amphitheater, a large outdoor theater. The Kern River Bike Trail passes this park and offers bikers a place to rest on their journey.

This land was created when the property between the Kern River and the Highway was divided for future development. This area ended up with limited street access and therefore it got donated to the city which made it a recreational place of the town.

The two lakes in the park also act as a water recharge basin for groundwater. Amenities in the park include six covered picnic areas and lots of seating capacities for up to 50 people. Throughout the park, there are more picnic tables and barbecues to be found. A playground is offering plenty of space for children to move around.

The park is popular by locals for fishing in the lakes, having a lazy lunch in nature, or just enjoy a spectacular sunset. The path and trails through the park invite you for a short hike or walk with the dog.
