On Wednesday morning, 49-year-old Kapatrine Sherman lost his life following a fatal pedestrian accident on Hwy 71.
The incident took place at about 4 a.m. on Hwy 71, north of Lecompte. According to State Police, Sherman, a resident of Lecompte, was walking in the roadway when he was hit by a northbound 2003 Ford Crown Victoria.
He suffered major injuries as a result of the crash and was declared deceased on the scene. It is not known whether Sherman was in or outside a crosswalk at the time of collision. Routine toxicology tests are pending.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
