A crash involving a big rig kills one person on Highway 101 (Hopland, CA)

On Tuesday, a person was killed in a crash involving a big rig on Highway 101.

The incident took place south of Frog Woman Rock near mile marker 4.35, which involved a motorhome. According to authorities, the big rig went down an embankment in the dry riverbed next to the Russian River. They called for Environmental Health to inspect the riverbed where the big rig came to a stop.

Officers mentioned that the head-on collision between the two vehicles left debris, closing down the southbound lane following which traffic was backed up at least a mile. First responders worked to clean up the roadway. They shut down Highway 101 near Cloverdale at mile marker 53.5.

The crash remains under active investigation.
