NASHVILLE, TN — The National Museum of African American Music plans to celebrate Black Music Month and commemorate Juneteenth with a lineup of events this June.

Sponsored by Amazon, Black Music Month will be held from June 17 to June 19 to celebrate the vigor of black artistry. This celebration will feature four events through June 17-19.

On Thursday, June 17, the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) invites you to join in the return of the Celebration of Legends benefit concert with the museum’s class of artists receiving the coveted Rhapsody and Rhythm award.

Honorees for this year’s Rhapsody and Rhythm Award are Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, and Fisk Jubilee Singers.

The concert will be live-streamed at 6 p.m. from the red carpet, and the benefit concert will begin at 7 p.m. The benefit will also feature other appearances and tribute performances. To register, please visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/celebration-of-legends-tickets-157657877957.

Following the Celebration of Legends, the State of Black Music Summit will be live-streamed on Friday, June 18, from 9.30 a.m. – 10.30 a.m. The inaugural one-day event featured dynamic discourse and panels exploring the intersection of Black music and culture with artists, industry leaders, and culture creators.

The event will also feature the release of the official State of Black Music podcast. There will be five sessions talking about all things Black music and culture.

The final event on June 19 will celebrate the success of the museum’s opening with a Juneteenth Block Party. The NMAAM invites the city of Nashville to join the family-friendly outdoor event that will feature live music performances, local vendors, and community partners with foods at the Fifth Broadway Assembly Hall from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
