In a city that is the size of Los Angeles, you are going to have endless choices when it comes to mealtime. Instead of including only a couple of the must-try hot spots in LA, I figured, thanks to its size alone, that keeping it just to a few spots would prove to be quite the tough task. Rather than having to pick just three favorites, I figured I would include all of my favorites and leave it to the reader to try them all. Those hungry readers who are planning a trip to Southern California should read on to learn what to eat when you visit Los Angeles.

Howlin' Ray's

When you hear about Nashville Hot Chicken, you probably are prompted to think about, well, Nashville. Those of us in California are lucky because we have that authentic Nashville hot flavor just a drive away. Serving up Tennessee’s finest in La La land since 2014, Howlin’ Ray’s brings those flavors to you without having to book a flight. Order their famous Sando with whatever amount of spice you prefer. I have to warn all my readers that this chicken sandwich will forever change your mind about all chicken sandwiches. I came back to the Bay Area and the chicken sandwiches here just aren't the same compared to Howlin' Rays. Howlin' Rays has the most tender and juiciest chicken I've ever had in my life. They have country spice for those who are not big fans of heat, and they have howlin’ heat which is reserved for those who live for spice. Make sure to keep it Southern by adding a side order of collard greens.

What I recommend: Chicken sandwhich but if you can take spice, try their Howlin'

I can’t quite put my finger on what it is about a breakfast sandwich that you don’t have to make yourself that makes it taste just that much better. I'm not too sure how Eggslut got its name but if it's supposed to represent the best egg sandwich ever, then they have it down. Their scrambled eggs in their sandwiches are unbelievably good. Get there early because there is sure to be a line at this very popular spot. When I visit, I stick with their Fairfax sandwich. It features their cag-free eggs soft scrambled and topped with both cheese and caramelized onions. All of this is served up on their awesome brioche bun. Those will celiac can ask them to hold that bun and just include the good stuff.

What I recommend: scrambled egg sandwich

You will have to forgive the name. It does not really do a great job of telling you how incredible the offerings are here at LA’s best ice cream spot. They make a red velvet chocolate chip cookie that you must try when you visit. And since picking between cookies or ice cream is lunacy, you will be forced to treat yourself to both. Though they have vanilla and chocolate, I insist that you branch out and try their banana dulce de leche ice cream. They even have some refreshing sorbets for anyone who is avoiding dairy.

What I recommend: any of their cookie ice cream sandwiches will do

Narrowing down the best spots for breakfast, sandwiches, or treats is no easy task. There are so many spots in LA that are worth a visit on your next trip, but the above rank amongst some of my personal favorites. Along with this variety comes tons of crowds, so you will want to rise and shine pretty early when you visit one of these spots. The early bird always gets the ice cream cone. Isn’t that how it goes? Either way, that early bird will not be hungry.
