A former U.S. Representative by the name of Jim Renacci recently released a campaign video criticising the current governor of Ohio Mike DeWine.

In 2010, Renacci was elected to the U.S. Congress. He even ran for a U.S. Senate position in 2017, but lost to Democrat Sherrod Brown. Renacci announced that he will be running for the Republican nomination in 2022 as the governor of Ohio against DeWine. According to his campaign website, his purpose is to “end Mike DeWine’s assault on the people of Ohio.” When schools and businesses were closed down, Renacci claimed that “DeWine put fear over freedom.” He is urging people to support him so they don’t go down with DeWine.

The morning of June 10, DeWine was announcing the latest winners of Vax-a-Million lottery and he was asked during that press conference what he had to say about Renacci’s claims.

Here is how he responded, “I’ve always felt that protecting human life is an essential belief for the people of the state and country,” he said. “We certainly believe that as republicans. We talk about protecting human life, but I also felt that protecting livelihoods, people’s ability to make a living, was also very dependent on our ability to manage the pandemic.”

The decision of closing business, schools, and many public avenues was a tough decision, but he made it after consulting many sectors of the business community. He said he had kept everyone in mind before taking such drastic measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

And it was not just about protecting the people. He was also thinking about the situation from an economic standpoint. How would the economy be impacted? What about jobs?

“Because of those early decisions, we are coming out of this strong,” DeWine said.

As for the gubernatorial primary election, it is scheduled for May of 2022.
