Why I've Always Had a Fear of Riding a Motorcycle

Riding a motorcycle is probably one of the biggest adrenaline rushes out there.

Speeding down the highway at 130 miles per hour at 2 in the morning without the fear of being caught by the cops has to be thrilling.

When I was younger, I rode a mini razor motorcycle, and it made me so happy. I would ride around the park near my house, throughout my neighborhood, and everywhere in between.

As I got older, more and more of my friends started riding motorcycles, and I wondered why

The thrill of riding a motorcycle goes hand in hand with the attention that comes with it. Many individuals like the attention of a loud motorcycle, speeding down highways and looking edgy.

Supposedly, riding a motorcycle is more common than I expected. It comes with a dark side, though — and that’s death.

One middle school friend of mine collided with a car and got nearly paralyzed for the rest of their life.

One high school friend of mine met a semi-truck head-on and died on impact.

Death is such a scary thing I won’t ever be ready to face head-on. The fact that you’re on a bike makes you such a vulnerable vehicle to cars and semi-trucks.

Nothing is saving you besides your body armor and your helmet. The thought of my body going flying on pavement terrifies me.

There are so many other thrills out there that I would much rather partake in, such as skydiving, zip-lining, bungee jumping, helicopter rides, etc.

Final Thought

Buying a motorcycle has never been something I’d actually save up for. But the fact that familiar faces I knew got paralyzed or died in the process scares me.

I understand that these are freak accidents, but it’s highly likely riding a bike.

If I wanted a thrill, I’d do something less risky with a high chance of taking my life.
