(OAKLAND, Calif.) Oakland police have arrested a third suspect in connection to a May 7 home invasion that resulted in the murder of the owner, East Bay Times reports.

Leopoldo Riz, 34, was arrested and charged with murder for the early morning home invasion of an RV that lead to the death of Paul Schrager after one of the burglars opened fire on him during a gunfight.

Two other suspects, 33-year-old John Harrison and 40-year-old Guillermo Lacayo Jr., have also been arrested and charged with the homicide.

Harrison was identified as a suspect after he arrived at a nearby hospital to receive treatment for an injury he sustained during the shootout.

Police arrested Ruiz on June 5 after investigators recovered surveillance footage showing him and the other suspects fleeing from the scene in a white Cadillac Escalade.

He was charged with Schrager’s murder and for two separate warrants for auto theft.

Ruiz later admitted during a police interview that he and the other suspects went to the 1400 block of 3rd Street to commit a robbery but “denied being armed with a firearm,” according to a probable cause statement filed by Oakland police Detective Michel Khem.

Court records indicate that the other suspects fired weapons during the incident but Ruiz did not.

Schrager and his 8-year-old son had come to symbolize the crisis of homelessness that’s become more common in the Bay Area in recent years. Schrager was the subject of an award-winning article produced by the San Francisco Chronicle.

On May 7, the suspects burst into Schrager’s RV, where Schrager’s girlfriend was awaiting his return. When Schrager arrived and discovered the robbery, the fatal shooting ensued.

All three suspects are currently being held without bond in the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
