Recently, the Ohio Lottery announced the third winners, Mark Cline and Sarah Afaneh, of the Vax-a-Miillion lottery. Cline received his vaccination at the Union County Fairgrounds. He joked, “(My wife’s) doing OK even though I told her that the million was mine because she didn’t register.”

The second winner was 13-year-old Sara from Sheffield Lake. Currently, she is a seventh grader at Brookside Middle School and she won the scholarship drawing. This scholarship is a four-year, full-ride to any Ohio state school. Summer, Sara’s mother, is a nurse and she was fortunate enough to get her children vaccinated as soon as it was made available to them.

The winners of the drawing from June 2nd were Jonathan Carlyle from Toledo and Zoie Vincent from Mayfield Village. Carlyle won the one million dollars while Vincent received the college scholarship.

“... I urge Ohioans to get the shot and then enter for a shot to win a million dollars or, for those aged 12-17 a chance to a four-year, full-ride scholarship including room, board, tuition and books at an Ohio public college or university,” Gov. Mike DeWine said.

The latest drawing occurred on June 14 and the final one is scheduled for June 21. The winners are always announced on the Wednesday following the drawing.

Once the lottery initiative was announced, more than 3.3 million residents of Ohio entered their names in hopes of winning the $1 million. Governor DeWine announced this incentive program on May 12 and since then in state vaccinations have increased by 43%. However, after the first few weeks, the number of people who got vaccinated dropped again. While the number of cases in Ohio is not as terrible as it was in March or April, even a million dollars could not push people to get vaccinated. Some are still skeptical of the vaccine and the effects it can have on their body. SO far, only 41% of the population has been fully vaccinated.

But DeWine has not given up yet.

“For Ohioans who have been waiting to get their vaccine, I urge you to take action now,” DeWine said.
