(PHOENIX) Two women were injured and sent to the hospital in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash in Phoenix on Tuesday, The Arizona Republic reported.

The Phoenix Police Department said the crash happened near Seventh Street and Southern Road. Police believe a car, with two women inside, ran a red light while driving south on Seventh Street and crashed into a car driving east on Southern Road.

The crash started a chain reaction and caused a second crash with a third vehicle.

Both women in the car that allegedly ran the red light were taken to the hospital. The drivers and passengers in the other cars only had minor injuries, police said.

The intersection closed at 9 a.m. while police investigated.
