Eat, drink and be merry at West Dundee restaurant/tavern
Tucked away on a riverfront side street in downtown West Dundee, The Village Squire is the place to go when you just need to escape the hurly-burly of everyday living, and...chill.
I'm a sucker for a bar with little lights strung around and the Squire fills that bill. It's not a fancy place, but it certainly is a cozy one. Hang out at the bar and enjoy a cocktail with a friend, or head for the dining room and tuck into a wide variety of menu items.
If you're looking for a tasty starter to accompany your drink, you'll have plenty of choices. My suggestion is to order several and share!
One of my favorites is the calamari. This is not the easiest dish to get right, but the Squire does. Perfectly golden and crispy, I could eat this all night long.
The Buffalo Wings, either bone-in or boneless, are a tavern classic and these are yummy. You can choose the level of heat you're comfortable with, from mild to incendiary. For myself, the hotter the better.
Also on the appetizer menu are onion rings, cheese curds, sliders, and much more.
When you're ready for the main event, the Squire has a HUGE selection of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and full dinners to choose from.
The Chicken Caesar Wrap is as crisp, tangy, and refreshing as the salad. The chicken is tender, succulent, and seasoned to perfection. And you can't go wrong with the classic Cheeseburger, with your c choice of cheese, and the Squire Burger which is smothered in sauteed mushrooms, grilled onions, and melted cheddar cheese. I'm getting hungry just writing about it!
If you're in the mood for a heartier meal, try the New York Strip Steak, BBQ Ribs, or Grecian Chicken. These are just a sampling of the options on the full dinner side. Included with the dinners are soup or salad, your choice of potato and bread and butter.
The salads at the Squire are exceptional. You won't get any limp pieces of lettuce, here. I highly recommend the Berry Nut Salad. Sweet, juicy, crisp, and crunchy the salad features tossed fresh greens topped with strawberries, dried cranberries, roasted walnuts, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, and egg slices. Served with a warm pita and choice of dressing. You can also add a protein, like grilled chicken which I always do.
The Cobb salad is also outstanding, as are all the Squire's salads. There's truly something for everyone, here.
If you have room for dessert, try the Molten Lava Fudge Cake, Caramel Apple Pie, or a classic Ice Cream Sundae. Yum!!
