A crash involving three cars kills a 45-year-old man and injures two others in Oakland (Oakland, CA)

On Sunday night, a 45-year-old man lost his life and two others received injuries following a multi-vehicle accident in East Oakland, police stated Monday.

The wreck took place at around 7:20 p.m. Sunday in the 10100 block of San Leandro Street. According to police, the man who died was steering a Cadillac DTS eastbound on San Leandro apparently at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a Toyota Camry that was heading westbound on San Leandro Street. Debris from the crash struck an Acura MDX SUV that was also traveling westbound on San Leandro Street, police mentioned.

After the two vehicles crashed into each other, the Cadillac hit a cement BART track pillar on the north side of the street, throwing the driver off his car. On arrival, medics rushed him to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 21-year-old woman who lives in San Leandro, and her passenger, a 21-year old Oakland man, were transported to a hospital and were in stable condition, police confirmed. No one in the Acura was injured as a result of the traffic collision. Police confirmed that speed played a part in the collision but it is not yet clear if drugs or alcohol also contributed to the crash.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
