When Disneyland announced its reopening, people were filled with both happiness and disappointment.
On the one hand, it was great news for the city of Anaheim. It meant people going back to work, as well as an important step towards returning to normal.
On the other hand, the conditions of the reopening were less than ideal. There was a strict capacity limit, social distancing rules, mask requirements, and a ban on out-of-state guests.
Thankfully, all that is about to change.
Changes
Disneyland is now making several changes. These changes are perfectly in line with California's recent full reopening.
Masks
Disneyland will no longer require fully vaccinated guests to wear masks. That applies both when they are indoors and outdoors.
It’s important to note that no proof of vaccination is being required. A person simply has to self attest to being vaccinated.
Social Distancing
Social distancing requirements, as well as on-site temperature checks, are also a thing of the past.
According to Disneyland’s website, this was done “so we will allow guests to self-determine distancing.”
Out of State Visitors
Before now, only guests from California were allowed. That was tough on Anaheim’s already struggling hotel industry.
Starting June 15th, out-of-state visitors are allowed to visit Disneyland. That’s a welcome change for many Anaheim businesses.
My Thoughts
I found this news interesting for two main reasons.
Great for Anaheim
The City of Anaheim, like most cities, was hit hard by Covid.
Disneyland reopening is a huge step towards its economic recovery.
Anaheim relies on Disneyland for a large chunk of tax revenue. Also, Disneyland provides many local residents with jobs.
No “vaccine passports”
There has been a lot of talk recently about so-called “vaccine passports.”
The fear was that people would be required to constantly prove their vaccination status to return to normal.
Those fears have proven unfounded.
Disneyland, as well as the State of California, are not requiring actual proof of vaccination. Self-attestation is enough.
Vaccinated or not, Anaheim is quickly returning to its pre-pandemic normal.
