2021 Featured Artist
Mathew King

This talented artist is from Worland, Wyoming and his creations are one of a kind. He’s been a woodturner for over 13 years and is excellent at his craft.

He is inspired by the beauty of his surroundings and natural settings inform many of the shapes he chooses when he turns a piece of wood.

Using native wood from the local area as well as species from the West Coast, he tries to choose trees that would have ended up as firewood or been taken to the city dump for disposal.

Sourcing his wood from contacts he has made with tree trimmers and wood mills, the local woods he uses are Box Elder, Russian Olive, Honey Locust, Walnut, to name a few.

Mountains, landscapes, flowers and rock formations bring him inspiration and he brings out the beauty in each piece by listening to it while he works.

The West Coast woods Mat has worked with include Big Leaf Maple, Myrtle, Madrone, Sycamore, and Redwood.

Mat’s creations are functional as well as artistic in design, they are food-safe and don’t require a lot of work to maintain their natural beauty.
