PEARLAND, TX – The City of Pearland partners with METRO to offer dedicated parking for residents that use the METRO Regional Vanpool Program. It provides parking for residents who commute to the Texas Medical Center and Downtown Houston, and surrounding destinations for vanpool transportation.
The program was authorized by City Council in a regular meeting on April 26 and will run for the whole year of 2021. It was programmed to alleviate traffic congestion, providing transit options and commuting alternatives through the Vanpool Pilot Program. The parking area provided is located near the Shadow Creek Sports Complex and Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail that function as central meeting spots for riders.
The vanpool program was known as METRO Star Vanpool, introduces a new month flat-rate concept in lieu of the traditional variable rates. The monthly flat rates are aimed to give the subscribers a way to save money, time and reduces the stress they have in commuting daily to work.
Those who are interested in becoming one of the vanpool riders should be at least 25 years of age with a five-year clean driving record in the U.S.
As a monthly commitment, a rider must give a one-month notice before they can leave the group or terminate a route. Other perks offered by this pilot program includes 24-hour roadside assistance, a fuel card, maintenance, an emergency ride home program and insurance.
