AKRON, OH — Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan announced a federal investment of $19.2 million in infrastructure improvements for Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, and Trumbull and Mahoning Counties on June 10.

The investment will be used to fund the North Main Street Complete Streets Project in the City of Akron at the cost of $4 million; the $7.2 million Gorge Terrace Street Project in Cuyahoga Falls; the Route 46/82 intersection in Trumbull County at $4 million; and the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Project at $4 million in Mahoning County.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has approved those funds, secured by Ryan through the surface transportation reauthorization – INVEST in America Act (HR 3684).

“I am proud to help secure this important funding for our community. The infrastructure America builds keeps our economy thriving, educates our children, and provides good-paying jobs for our workers,” said Ryan.

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan welcomed the announcement, saying: “The North Main Street project will enable our city to replace failing, half-century-old infrastructure with a safe, modern, and accessible roadway that meets the diverse needs of motorists, cyclists, public transportation and pedestrians. This important project will have positive ripple effects throughout our North Akron community, and help propel our economic and social recovery.”

Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters also expressed his gratitude for the funding. He believes the project in Cuyahoga Falls “will totally transform the southern end of our downtown into a vibrant, walkable area.”

“It will offer scenic views of the Cuyahoga River and also provide connectivity to the trails of Gorge Park. Thank you to Congressman Tim Ryan for his vision and support for our community,” he continued.

“We are excited to be awarded four million dollars from the INVEST in America Act for the SR 46 and E. Market Street intersection. This funding commitment will complete the safety upgrade and provide countless economic benefits to the corridor, that will include the construction of a diverging diamond interchange at SR 46/SR 82. We are very appreciative of Congressman Ryan for his support of this transformational project and all of our initiatives in the region,” said Jim Kinnick, Executive Director of the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

“The Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Improvement Project is crucial to Mahoning County and Jackson Township to enable commerce to move more efficiently and safely through the corridor. With growing businesses like Macy’s, Mom’s Meals, Liberty Steel, and Extrudex, to name a few, the need for safety upgrades and pavement improvements is of utmost importance,” said Patrick Ginnetti, Mahoning County Engineer.
