An ambulance stolen from New York had to be pulled out of the water after a lengthy pursuit that took place on New York State Thruway.

What are the details?

According to Fox News, the police were chasing the vehicle and caught up to it on Sunday along the Thruway. Later on, they were able to match up to it on I-490 and into the city of Rochester. The chase went on for about 100 miles.

The cops found the ambulance right off the Culver Road exit. The crews were then led down Seneca Road, which is when the vehicle crashed into Irondequoit Bay near Newport Yacht Club.

“It was surreal to see somebody come flying through, crashing through our gate and go into the water,” Bob Henry, a member of the board of directors for the club, said for13WHAM.

Another witness to the incident was David Drushler. He was reportedly making a delivery at the yacht club and saw it all happen.

He revealed the woman rolled the window down in an attempt to get out of the vehicle and kept trying to get on top of the ambulance to hold on to something.

“People on the power boats around were yelling, ‘She’s drowning. She can’t swim.’ That’s when the power boats came down and fished her out,” Drushler said for Fox News.

The sunken vehicle was eventually located with the help of members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s scuba team. It wasn’t too far from the docks. The crews needed more than an hour to pull the ambulance back to the surface.

Police stated that the woman whose identity has not been published refused to comply as they tried to pull over the ambulance several times. A spokesperson from Utica-based Kunkel Ambulance said that the vehicle had been stolen while a post-shift cleaning was going on. It was tracked using a GPS after the theft occurred.

The New York woman was taken into custody and charges against her are pending.
