(NEW YORK) An Asian food delivery worker was stabbed in the back by a bicyclist on Monday, in what police believe may be a hate crime, the New York Daily News reported.

A bicyclist wearing a green ski mask rode up behind the 53-year-old victim, who was also on a bicycle, on Fulton Street near Eldert Lane in East New York at around 4 p.m.

The attacker stabbed the delivery man in the back while passing him.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

Police are treating the attack as a hate crime, and the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is leading the investigation.

Hate crimes against Asian Americans dramatically increased during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism measured a 149% increase in documented anti-Asian hate crimes across 16 American cities between 2019 and 2020.
