(QUEENS, N.Y.) A 48-year-old father of three, identified as Mohammed Houssain, has died following injuries from an early Sunday accident.

According to NBC New York, a 22-year-old Brooklyn man was allegedly driving under influence, at double the legal limit, when he ran a red light and T-boned the Lyft driver in Queens.

Houssain passed away from the injuries and his passenger, who was in the backseat, sustained a broken femur and is being treated at a hospital.

Video footage captured the tragedy as the Ford Explorer T-boned Houssain's car.

Prosecutors also said the drunk driver did not have a valid New York license and that the plate number of the SUV did not have a valid registration.

"The rules of the road exist to save lives. As alleged, this defendant ignored them and made selfish, illegal decisions from the moment he got behind the wheel of the car, with tragic results," said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz in a statement on Monday. "Now, a hardworking family man is dead, his widow, children and community are in mourning and the defendant faces justice in the courts.”

The suspect was arraigned Monday on charges of manslaughter, assault, criminally negligent homicide among others, and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, per NBC New York.

Houssain's brother-in-law, Syed Ahmed, told News 4 that "the whole family is devastated."

Houssain was described as a hardworking family man by those closest to him. A family member said he helped his brother-in-law pay for nursing school.

A Lyft spokesperson said in a statement, "We are heartbroken by this incident. Our hearts are with the driver's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we are ready to assist law enforcement however we can."
