(ATLANTA, Ga.) Atlanta’s Dogwood Festival announced its return for 2021 and has released details surrounding the event.
Normally taking place in the spring, the festival is set for the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic canceling the original date in April. Now, the festival will take place from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8 at Piedmont Park.
Since 1933, the Dogwood Festival has been held each spring with an arts and crafts focus. Originally, the festival was held for nine days over weekdays and weekends, now it is only held over the weekend while the native flowering dogwood trees bloom.
The festival was moved to August to comply with the city’s regulations with large-scale events. According to a news release, the festival, celebrating its 85th year, is the city’s largest and longest-running fine arts festival and the third oldest in the nation.
Along with the date change, the festival is requesting a $5 donation upon entry. Normally free to enter, this change comes about due to the festival losing funding caused by the pandemic. The contribution is a one-time fee and can be paid in advance online or at the gate.
We are thrilled to head back to Piedmont Park in August and host this outdoor fine arts festival,” festival Executive Director Brian Hill said in a public statement in April. “Last year was difficult, and we are looking forward to bringing a much-needed celebration to our city and continuing the beloved tradition of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.”
Attendees of the festival this year can expect:
- Live entertainment featuring local bands and international performers on the Coca-Cola Main Stage
- Ticketed culinary events in the VIP Tent overlooking the Coca-Cola Main Stage. Guests can enjoy meals and samples from local restaurants and chefs along with comfortable seating, private bathrooms and a dedicated bar.
- A designated area for children, The Kids Village, will include hands-on activity and rides and inflatables that parents can accompany children on.
