(CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif.) Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) now has a mobile vaccination van that businesses can request to come to their locations for mass vaccinations.
According to the county, the free mobile vaccination service starts Monday and any business or organization can request a mobile vaccination clinic through the online form.
"The state pandemic health orders that have affected businesses, public spaces and community activities for more than a year are changing on June 15 – especially for people who are fully vaccinated," said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, deputy health officer for Contra Costa County.
Businesses can expect the mobile vaccination clinic roughly one week after the completed request.
"If you do not already have the best protection available against COVID-19, now is the time to get a vaccine. We will come to you," Tzvieli said.
Clinics will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in any location within the county. There is no cap on the number of vaccinations the mobile clinic can provide.
After Tuesday, the state's color-tiered reopening system will be put to rest with Alameda and Napa counties recently reaching the least restrictive yellow tier.
In March of this year, a mobile vaccination clinic in Oakland highlighted the vast inequities in vaccine distribution thorughout the Bay Area.
Critically, the vaccination site at Oakland's Coliseum does not accept walk-ups. Patients must have a vehicle to go to the site. Mobile clinics provide critical distribution to residents who do no have cars or cannot make it to mass vaccination sites.
Contra Costa is one of the last counties to come around to mobile vaccination sites with more metropolitan counties like San Francisco, Alameda and even San Mateo adopting mobile clinics early in 2021. Mobile sites provide critical help to large swathes of the Bay Area's population who may not have easy transportation to and from a mass vaccination site like the Coliseum.
