(SAN FRANCISCO) Officers in San Francisco safely returned "Leo" a 10-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who was taken from a vehicle Thursday.

According to the San Francisco police, the small dog, who has some minor health issues, was taken from a Lexus sedan parked on North Point Street near Powell Street Thursday night. When the owners returned to their vehicle they found a window in the vehicle broken and Leo was gone. The dog was in a small nylon dog carrier. The burglar also took a suitcase from the vehicle.

Jacqueline Zavala-Lee and Refugio Zavala were reunited with Leo Sunday night. Zavala said that the person who purchased Leo heard the story of the theft on the news and called the police. It's unclear if the suitcase was returned as well.

In March of this year, a one-year-old Terrier was stolen from an owner's car following a car crash on the Bay Bridge. CHP retrieved the dog and returned it to its rightful owner.

This comes after a four-month old Maltese puppy named Scruggs was stolen from the owner's Subaru parked on Sutter Street, in late February of this year, according to the police.

Police used surveillance cameras to identify and eventually arrest the suspect. When arrested, however, 43-year-old Viengphet Sassone, refused to tell investigators where Scruggs was located.

In January of this year, a woman's five-month-old French bulldog was stolen after being assaulted at gunpoint while walking in Russian Hill.

Investigators urged anyone with information on Leo to contact the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 to remain anonymous.
