City of South Fulton Juneteenth Celebration: Forward to Freedom

SOUTH FULTON, GA — The City of South Fulton is now celebrating Juneteenth 2021 in commemoration of the City's Forward to Freedom events. The event will be from June 15 to June 19 in various areas. The schedule of the event will be as shown below.

Tuesday, June 15 is for Freedom Film Festival in partnership with True Colors and BronzeLens. The event will be at Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW, South Fulton, starting from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Wednesday, June 16 is for United Tot Olympics. This event will be at Old National Park, 2400 Pleasant Hill Road SW, South Fulton.,starting from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Thursday, June 17 is for Quilt Festival & South Fulton Business Highlights. This event will be at Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW, South Fulton, starting from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The next day, Friday, June 18, is for Feeding Our City Food Distribution. This event will be at Welcome All Park, 4255 Will Lee Road, South Fulton, starting from 11:00 AM to 3:00 OM. This is a collaboration event between the City of South Fulton and Atlanta Community Food Bank.

There will be two events on the last day, Saturday, June 19. The first is Community Giveback that will be at various locations throughout the city. This event will start from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The second one is Freedom Finale Concert in partnership with St. James Live! that will be at Wilkerson Farris-Mill Park, 8C95 Wilkerson Mill Road, Palmetto. The Concert features The Soul Carter band and many more. Audience is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic baskets to enjoy the concert.

Juneteenth is the oldest national celebration in commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865, when the Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger landed at Galveston, Texas bringing the news that the war was over and ended slavery.
