ATLANTA, GA — The High Museum of Art’s High Frequency Friday Event will be held on July 2, 2021. Partnering with the African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA), Komansé Dance Theater and Orchestra Noir, the High Museum of Art will debut a film featuring an original dance performance and orchestral score inspired by a Radcliffe Bailey painting “EW, SN” (2011) in the Museum’s collection.

The collaboration launches “Permanent Project” to address exclusion and disconnection between arts institutions and the Black Community. The aim of the project is to reinterpret artworks through original music and choreography, which then provides intimate contact with greater accessibility to culturally significant works by Black artists.

“Collaboration is deeply embedded in the High’s DNA. This partnership with ADAMA, Komansé, and Orchestra Noir is an exciting, next level opportunity to dovetail the incredible strengths of our collection with the talents of our partners and deliver an artistic experience quite meaningful and compelling for our community. We are proud to be a part of it,” said, Rand Suffolk, the Museum’s Nancy and Holcombe T. Green, Jr., director.

Fahamu Pecau, ADAMA director and High board member, stated that many artists in the Black communities in Atlanta is underserved. The launch of ‘Permanent Project’ is to reveal arts created by Black artists. And it will also serve as a connection between the Black community members and the Black artists.

Titled “Permanent: EW, SN,” the film features the entire 10-minute dance and live orchestra performance as well as behind-the-scenes footage documenting the process of creating the musical composition Jason Ikeem Rodgers, the Orchestra Noir Maestro, and the dance choreographed by Raianna Brown, the Komansé Dance Theater Artistic Director. Also a Q&A session with Pecou, Rodgers and Brown.

The collaboration between High and its “Permanent Project” partners is to bring other artworks in their collection through the experiences related to films.
