A study conducted at WalletHub, a finance website, exposes the happiest states in the US using a metric scale where three dimensions, namely emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment are measured on a 100-point scale. The result of the study, published Tuesday, revealed that Hawaii took the top spot in terms of happiness while other front runners were Utah, Minnesota, and New Jersey.

New Jersey, the fourth-smallest state in the country, however, topped the charts in terms of emotional and physical well-being, succeeding over Hawaii, which came in second.

Although a plethora of reasons can be circled back to making New Jersey one of the happiest states, it isn’t exactly a cakewalk to pinpoint precisely. Delving into the statistics and figuring out how it raked in the supreme spot at overall well-being should carry us towards numerous factors. Starting with politics, New Jersey is essentially a blue state and passes along its politics with not much hassle.

With over 9 million in state population, New Jersey houses a vast tourism sector with cultural attractions including the coastal paradise Atlantic City. Furthermore, in a much lighter aspect, New Jersey is remarkable when it comes to Gas station snacks. Along with killer convenience stores, they cater a chain of fast-food joints within the station that is just too irresistible and quite hits the spot of craving.

But while all these clues into why New Jersey is arguably peaceful and content enough to sit comfortably at their happiness throne, we cannot help but wonder whether if some factors do not affect it or not. The coronavirus outbreak brought in 201,552 cases at the state with a death toll hitting 14,300, according to CNBC news.

The state has the 7th highest unemployment rate in the country, though the state garners in new jobs in the sector of tourism and healthcare, among others. Adding to that tally, New Jersey people are some of the worst sleepers and unrested lot in America, vaguely targeting to the constant commotion of the city. But nevertheless, the city holds the key to happiness, at the end of the day.
