On June 11, passengers on a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta assisted in subduing a rowdy passenger who was allegedly attempting to open the plane’s door mid-flight, causing the trip to be diverted to Oklahoma City.
One passenger’s video shows air stewards and passengers grappling with someone while an irritated male voice can be heard.
Benjamin Curlee, who claims to have been on the jet at the time, recalls the experience in this video.
“There was an attempt to take down a plane today and I was on that flight.” “apparently someone who was a flight attendant — not a flight attendant on this flight… made an announcement over the loudspeaker and said ‘everyone please take your seat and gets ready to put on oxygen masks.’” Curlee claims.

The suspect then “attempted to open the door of the plane” according to Curlee, before being detained. These statements have not been verified, however, they correspond to another passenger’s account.

According to a Delta spokeswoman, “Thanks to Delta Flight 1730’s crew and passengers for assisting in the detention of a rowdy passenger while the flight was diverted to Oklahoma City (OKC). The plane landed safely, and the passenger was taken away by law authorities. We apologize for the delay and any further trouble this has caused our clients.”
