Universal Studios and Disneyland have long been fun for the whole family.
Their reopenings felt like a big win for Los Angeles.
Open theme parks are a huge sign that Los Angeles is returning to normal.
But, not everyone is happy about it. Some parents are very hesitant about the return to normal.
Hesitancy
A new Insider poll illustrates parents' hesitancy well.
Hundreds of parents are either “somewhat worried” or “extremely worried” about catching Covid at a theme park.
Of the 1,079 people surveyed, 360 had children. 193 of those people had some level of concern about Covid.
People’s level of concern was broken down into their vaccination levels.
Vaccinated
- 22 “extremely worried”
- 35 “very worried”
- 76 “somewhat worried”
Partially Vaccinated
- 23 partially vaccinated participants said they would feel some level of concern.
Fully Vaccinated
- 27 fully vaccinated participants said they would feel some level of concern.
What The Experts Are Saying
The experts have been clear. It’s entirely safe for fully vaccinated people to vacation at the Florida and California theme parks. That goes for adults and children both.
Dr. Amesh Adalja is a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security. He was very clear about the safety of theme parks.
“The more that vaccinated people go to the theme parks, the safer the theme parks become. This is the reason why people should get vaccinated — so they can get back to their lives.”-Dr. Amesh Adalja
He reiterated this belief recently, saying that he feels theme parks are:
“Becoming safer by the day as more people are vaccinated. The chance of running into COVID-19 is decreasing, even for the unvaccinated.”-Dr. Amesh Adalja
My Thoughts
Theme parks reopening was a huge step for Los Angeles and Southern California as a whole.
It’s the strongest sign yet that things are returning to normal. Celebrities have ever started taking their kids back to Universal Studios.
Jobs
The biggest positive about the parks reopening is the jobs they create. Theme parks are some of the biggest employers in California.
Universal Studios has already started hiring again.
The park is trying to fill more than 2,000 job openings. They include full-time, part-time, seasonal, and professional jobs.
