Hawaii offers a fantastic opportunity for American residents who wish to live in a tropical location. Since it became our 50th state in 1959, you don't need a passport to move here.

You should consider some specific facts about this island state if you are thinking of moving there. First, it has a time zone called Hawaiian Standard Time. There is a two-hour difference between Pacific and Eastern time, meaning it is five hours behind Eastern time. Hawaii has no daylight saving time, so it varies throughout the year how long you are behind.

Hawaii has only four counties, even though there are eight significant islands with populated areas. There is a color and a flower for each island, while a mayor and a council represent each city. As a result, all underground minerals belong to the state, though there are few resources.

There are more pros to consider if you are considering moving to Hawaii:

1. Hawaii has incredible weather all year round.

Hawaii is home to 11 of the world's 13 sub-climates. All of the islands offer you a perfect environment for living. When you move to the big island, you'll appreciate its leeward side because of its dry climate. The weather is colder at higher elevations, however. Moving closer to the coast is an option for someone who prefers a warmer environment.

2. Hawaii's roads and highways are usually in good condition.

Hawaii provides excellent infrastructure to make sure that you can get to where you need to be. The public transportation system on the islands is terrific as well. Most of the neighborhoods are open and accessible to everyone, with bike paths and several parks to relax in after a long day. While there are often road construction projects throughout the islands, these projects reinforce the benefits of the existing infrastructure.

The following are some of the worst things about living in Hawaii:

1. The cost of living in Hawaii is significantly higher than in many other states.

Hawaii is a costly place to live because of its geographic location and popularity. It won't be easy to find a studio apartment for less than $750 per month with anything more than a stove. A one-bedroom apartment will cost you at least $1,300 per month. In addition, the cost of propane, electricity, and gasoline is the highest in the state. Finally, the cost of auto insurance is extremely high, even if you have a perfect driving record.

2. Traffic on the highway is nothing short of a nightmare on some islands.

It would help if you planned on spending a couple of extra hours on the road during rush hour. Halo, Kona, and the road between Pahoa and Kea'au are notorious for their crowded streets. The islands' roads were not built to handle the amount of traffic they currently have. You will also see a lot of road construction throughout the year because of this need to improve traffic. Bottom line: if you drive somewhere, expect to experience a significant delay.

Bonus: Here are some fun facts about Hawaii:

1. The first Asian American in the United States Senate was Hawaii's, Hiram Fong. Descended from Chinese immigrants, Fong was elected to the Senate in 1959.

2. Hawaii was the 50th state admitted to the union on August 20th, 1959.

3. Island flowers and colors are used to represent each island.

4. Hawaii has its time zone (Hawaiian Standard Time.) There is no daylight savings time.) The time runs two hours behind Pacific Standard Time and five hours behind Eastern Standard Time.

5. There are four counties in Hawaii (Kauai; city and county of Honolulu; Maui; and Hawaii). Each town has a mayor and council.
