HOUSTON — The annual Extreme Weather Ready Expo is back this year on June 12 from 10 a.m to 1 p.m in Lot C of Minute Maid Park.

The event is also known as Hurricane Workshop, which aims to provide knowledge on preparing and anticipating extreme weather situations through interactive weather forecasting and presentations.

This annual event is among the most anticipated in Houston, with more than 2,500 attendees every year. In 2011, the event broke a record in terms of the number of visitors, reaching 5,000.

The event's organizing committee won an award from the National Weather Association in 2014. The Association identifies how the partnership between the industry and government bodies at the expo can make everyone stay informed.

Bringing a new concept this year, people can attend the drive-thru event for free. The first 2,000 vehicles will get Papa John's Pizza which means you'll have something to munch on when enjoying the expo. Back in 2007, the expo provided the kids with a play zone which attracted more attendees.

The National Weather Service is a featured presenter of this workshop, providing billions of observations and millions of forecastings and over 50,000 warnings.

The event is supported by CenterPoint Energy, which has sponsored the workshop since 2005. Other sponsors were the National Weather Service and active participants such as Harris County, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston and the John C. Freeman Weather Museum, and the City of Houston.
