When people think about Chicago food they think of two food types - deep-dish pizza and Chicago-style hotdogs.
My top 5 best hot dog spots in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
5. Superdawg (Chicago) - When going to Superdawg, you must remember one thing. They do not sell hot dogs here, they sell Superdawgs. When ordering, you must say Superdawg before asking for their world-famous hotdog or they will make you repeat your order. Superdawg has been around for a decade for a good reason. Their Superdawg is larger and plumper than any other hotdog on this list. They serve it with the freshest ingredients with their proprietary hotdog recipe. I also love their old-school drive-in feel. It really makes Superdawg stand out from the rest.
4. Gina’s Hot Dogs and Beef (Bensenville) - This Gene and Judes clone makes a pretty good hotdog, served with the fries on top of a Chicago-style hot dog. The hotdog has a great snap to it and the ingredients always taste fresh, using classic neon green relish that sometimes dyes your bun. The fries are all hand-cut and cooked perfectly. The decor of the restaurant is nothing special, but they serve consistently good Chicago-style hotdogs at a good price.
3. Chicago’s Dog House (Chicago) - This place is another clone of the world-famous now-closed Hot Doug’s. They offer a massive variety of gourmet hotdogs, like the T-Frank Dog that features cream cheese, avocado, bacon, and homemade hot sauce. For unusual hot dogs, this is a place that you must try out.
2. Fatso’s Last Stand (Chicago) - Known for having the best char-dog in the city of Chicago, this place does not mess around when it comes to hotdogs. They are always fantastic every time I come here. They also have a great outdoor seating area that is perfect to relax and enjoy the weather, while enjoying your hotdog.
1. Gene and Jude’s (River Grove) - The year after year reigning champ of the hot dog war in Chicago is this place. There is a reason that celebrity chef Rachel Ray named them the best hot dog in the country. They are always fantastic. No one can ever replicate the unique flavor of their hot dogs. They started the trend of putting hand-cut fries on top of the hotdog. They are simply only selling what they do best, which is hotdogs and fries. They also sell Supreme tamales, which is another Chicago food staple. No matter when you go here, there is a massive line. There is nowhere to sit down and eat here, so be ready to tailgate or chow down in your car.
Let me know in the comments section what you think is your top hot dog place in the Chicagoland area.
