Sacramento is teeming with budding artists looking to make their mark.

Many music venues and clubs in Sacramento provide musicians with the chance to perform in front of a live audience, allowing them to build a local following.

Musicians may easily find their way out of Sacramento and onto the stage of a sold-out arena with the numerous resources at their disposal to make it big in our city.

So, here are some Sacramento-based artists who are presently living the dream:

1) Tesla

At the ages of 20 and 15, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Frank Hannon created the rock band TESLA, originally known as City Kidd, in late 1982.

The band's music is frequently described as melodic rock, which fits with their image as a unique, approachable rock band.

TESLA has produced 15 albums since 1986, selling 14 million copies in the United States alone.

2) Cake

CAKE is an alternative rock band formed in 1991 by singer John McCrea, trumpeter Vince DiFiore, guitarist Xan McCurdy, bassist Gabe Nelson, and drummer Paulo Baldi.

Influences from several genres such as country, hip-hop, mariachi, and funk can be heard.

The band's debut single, "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle," charted at number 35 on the Modern Rock Tracks music chart in 1995.

The band's most recent album, "Showroom of Compassion," was recorded in Sacramento and became the band's first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard list in its first week.

3) Club Nouveau

Sacramento producer Jay King founded the R&B-pop group Club Nouveau – French for "New Club" – in 1986.

In 1987, the group's first success, a rendition of Bill Withers' song "Lean on Me," received a Grammy.

The hip-hop duo Luniz sampled Club Nouveau's smash song "Why You Treat Me So Bad" on their smash tune "I Got 5 on It," while rapper/producer Diddy did the same on his No. 1 R&B ballad "Satisfy You" in the 1990s.

4) Death Grips

Death Grips is an experimental hip-hop band made up of rapper Stefan Burnett, drummer Zach Hill, and producer Andy Moring.

The group's sound was described as a blend of hip-hop, punk rock, and industrial when they originally debuted.

In 2011, the trio published their debut mixtape, which was followed by the release of two studio albums in 2012, titled "The Money Store" and "No Love Deep Web."

Death Grips has amassed a sizable fan base in recent years, with Pitchfork ranking them 9th on their Best Albums of 2012 list.
