An employee at an Arby’s restaurant in Lafayette has to look for a different job after writing an offensive slur on a receipt given to a gay couple, as The Blaze reports.

What are the details?

Craig Gray and John Burns couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the insult addressed to them on the receipt while they were out dining. They were waiting to have their meal at Arby’s on Sunday in Lafayette, Indiana.

They shared with the news outlets that the man who took their order when they first came in the restaurant didn’t seem upset at all after seeing the couple.

“We went to the counter and ordered. The cashier that helped us, the young man that's been mentioned, seemed really new and a little awkward, but very nice. So, a very run of the mill type of fast-food occurrence. Nothing that you would expect out of the ordinary,’ Burns said for NBC News.

While they were waiting to get their food, they suddenly noticed the written slur.

“Shock, just absolute shock. This has never happened to me in all my years. I'm from this area, and I've lived here my whole life,” Burns continued.

He confronted the young man and asked about what was written on the receipt. The employee claimed it had been an accident.

“I said, 'Look at this. What is this? Why would you do this?' And that's when he tried to give me some lame excuse about a computer glitch, where he said, 'Sometimes I'll put in a name and it will come out different on the receipt,'” Burns recalled.

What happened next?

The couple said that their meal was immediately refunded by the restaurant manager who didn’t waste any time in firing the employee who had offended them.

The couple also wished to know how the restaurant would act to prevent any such incident occurring in the future.

“We have zero tolerance for discriminatory speech of any kind,” an Arby's spokesperson told NBC after the Lafayette incident.
