Do you avoid certain neighborhoods in Portland? Or, more importantly, do you feel safe throughout every single region of the city? If the answer is no, you might want to pay attention to this article.

Every month, the city of Portland updates crime statistics for each neighborhood. And according to their data over the last 12 months, here are several parts of the city that might be worth avoiding:

Downtown Portland

Downtown is a bustling area with independent stores offering local items and a diverse eating scene that includes anything from quirky food trucks to high-end seafood bistros. So, every single time I visit the city of Portland, I love visiting downtown. It's incredibly unique and has so many incredible things to see and do. Plus, the local coffee shops are amazing.

But as you will probably know, it's not always incredibly safe. From May 2020 to May 2021, there were 189 cases of fraud, 1,568 instances of larceny, and 138 motor vehicle thefts.

Hazelwood

I've got a friend who lives in the Hazelwood neighorhood. He absolutely loves it there. However, there are some instances (especially at night) when he feels unsafe. From May 2020 to May 2021, there were 199 cases of fraud, 1,188 instances of larceny, and 413 motor vehicle thefts.

Powellhurst-Gilbert

It's certainly an interesting part of the city in Portland, Oregon's Southeast area. It is bordered on the north by Montavilla, Hazelwood, and Mill Park, on the east by Centennial, Pleasant Valley on the east and south, and on the west by Lents and South Tabor. From May 2020 until May 2021, Powellhurst-Gilbert had 117 cases of fraud, 583 instances of larceny, and 315 motor vehicle thefts.
