(OAKLAND, Calif.) A 12-year-old boy was shot during an attempted theft at his family’s home in Oakland, East Bay Time reports.

The boy’s condition has been reported as stable. No other injuries were reported during the incident.

Investigators say that the boy’s father was awakened by noises coming from outside their home in the 2500 block of Rawson Street at around 3 a.m.

The father and his son went outside to find the source of the noise when they found two men trying to steal the catalytic converter from the family vehicle.

One of the suspects began firing at the two as the father tried to run the thieves off, striking the boy. The father took his son to a nearby hospital after the suspects fled from the scene.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for any additional information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Information can be submitted by contacting the Oakland Police Department at 510-238-3426 or 510-238-3326 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
