The 70-year-old Ohio man was cited for misdemeanor littering.
On June 3, Officer Sam Conley of the Greenville, Ohio Police, was called to the residence of Matthew Guyette after the homeowner had noticed a man squatting down by the shrubs in his yard, “either urinating or defecating”. He noted the clothing and direction of travel of the suspect to dispatch when he called the police.
Guyette confronted the subject and followed him a few blocks. Officer Conley picked up an individual matching the description Guyette relayed on the road he specified and detained the man in the back of his police cruiser as he talked to him about the incident. The man identified himself as Jerry Detrick, aged 70.
Detrick stated he walks past Guyette’s address almost nightly as he heads home from Danny’s Bar, not far away. He initially said he walks past the address but did not urinate there. He nevertheless said he often walks past Guyette’s address, and because of where Detrick lives and where Danny’s Bar is, he would have to walk past his own home to get to Guyette’s address.
Detrick ultimately admitted to urinating in Guyette’s yard – a confession caught on tape by Officer Conley.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Marion of the Greenville PD was at Guyette’s home getting some standard paperwork and incident reports filled out. Marion noticed a wet spot in the yard. He then headed to Officer Conley’s location where they handed Detrick a citation for littering and advised him of his court date. He then released Detrick to walk back to his residence.
It was then that Detrick admitted to defecating in Guyette’s yard “multiple times on unknown dates.” He also stated he relieved himself there because the residents were Biden supporters, and he was a “Trump man”.
Detrick was then warned of a potential trespassing charge and advised not to return to Guyette’s address. He returned home peacefully.
