CUYAHOGA, AKRON — The Ohio & Erie Canalway has announced the 7th edition of its Towpath Companion, redesigned for the first time in its almost 20 years of history, on April 27. Collaborative efforts by partners from across the National Heritage Area, led by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, created the book.

The new design of Towpath Companion delivers contextual information for the readers about various destinations along the 110-mile corridor of the National Heritage Area in Northeast Ohio. Currently, its seventh edition added with the history of the Ohio & Erie Canalway, along with cultural and natural environment assets since the previous edition in 2002.

People can discover the history and culture of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area by bicycle or foot along the Towpath Trail as it traverses landscapes from Cleveland to New Philadelphia.

The Towpath Companion is now on sale for $19.95, interested parties can visit the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition’s website, ohioeriecanal.org, to purchase a copy. It will also be available with various partner locations and bicycle shops throughout the region.

“The Towpath Companion is such an integral tool in understanding the many opportunities for exploration along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. We’re happy to offer this resource to visitors from near and far,” said Dan Rice, president and CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, and co-executive director of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Association.

The 7th edition of Towpath Companion, which printed in the spring of 2021, was the first edition to get a complete overhaul, offering readers additional facts, beautiful pictures, and updated maps to assist people’s learning journey. A digital guide also will be available soon.
