CUYAHOGA, AKRON — There are a lot of entertaining things to do and explore at the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, whether it's by bicycle, on foot, or even on horseback.

Climb aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for an incredible train trip, or go along America's Byways to soak in the natural splendor. If you're out of ideas, here are some activities to start the summer.

1. Camping

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Summit Metro Parks, and Stark Parks are great places to camp and wind down. Please note that while not all camping sites require a reservation, visitors must fill out a registration card at arrival.

2. Hiking

The Towpath Trail is an excellent spot to hike and provides visitors with breathtaking landscapes. If you enjoy hiking with your family and friends, make your way over to the Towpath Trail and take advantage of everything it has to offer. If you're interested in hiking but aren't sure where to begin, we recommend that you look into some local hiking clubs to get you started on your journey. You can find trailheads in the area on maps.

3. Photography

Cuyahoga Valley National Park was rated one of the top 25 locations in the world for nature photography. Along Gorge Parkway, the beautiful observation point offers a breathtaking view of the 220-foot Gorge. The entire region within the Cleveland Metroparks Bedford Reservation is a photographer's dream.

4. Boating

There are water activities for everyone in the region, ranging from boating on the open waters of Lake Erie on the north coast to kayaking and canoeing on the Ohio & Erie Canal on the south shore of the state.

Lake Erie, Cuyahoga & Tuscarawas Rivers, and Portage Lakes offer various enjoyable activities for people of all ages. These places are ideal for a leisurely cruise, kayaking, or trying your hand at stand-up paddleboarding.

5. Questing

'Quests' are meant to assist you in discovering the natural and cultural treasures of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and National Heritage Area. There is a treasure hunt in every adventure, giving each location in Northeast Ohio a unique story to tell.

With 110 miles of trails to discover, we are confident that you will find an adventure that is suitable for you. Discover lakes, waterfalls, and rivers changing with the seasons. Everything is ready for you!
