As summer is heating up in the Windy City, there is a tasty cool beverage that begs one question. Frozen or on the rocks? Yes, I’m talking about a salty, sweet, ice cold Margarita. Is there anything that pairs better with a warm summer night than a tasty marg?

Perhaps you are a purist and just want tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Or you want something with a little more flair, like a jalapeno strawberry margarita. Regardless, Chicago has a spot for you.

And what’s better than a margarita?

How about a really BIG margarita!

Here’s our favorite places in Chicago that are shaking up (or blending!) some oversized margitas.

Just a note, this list is strictly based on oversized margaritas, not on food. We are also not talking about pitchers here, that would be cheating! There will be no sharing of these giant beverages.

Blue Agave

We walked by Blue Agave in River North one night and stopped dead in our tracks. Through the window we could see their giant margaritas with tiny Corona bottles sticking out of the glass. It was the best advertisement you could imagine. We had to have one…or two! And they did not disappoint! Who doesn’t love their alcohol mixed with more alcohol?

We were definitely feeling it after one of these delicious concoctions and the bartender even gave us a complimentary tequila shot at the end. Blue Agave has several locations throughout Chicago and would be a great stop to kick off your evening! These large margs will set you back over $20.

Blue Agave is located at 579 W Kinzie St, Chicago, IL 60654.

Café El Tapatio

Located on Ashland in Lakeview this unassuming corner restaurant has been a neighborhood staple since 1974. We are not kidding when we say that El Tapatio has margaritas that pack a punch! I am probably a little biased towards this spot because we have spent our fair share of summer nights enjoying drinks and enchiladas on their patio.

The “Tap,” as we call it, is always packed on the weekends and for good reason! Their jumbo classic lime margarita does cost $16 but it is so worth it! The food here is also great, although this isn’t a food ranking!

Café El Tapatio is located at 3400 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL.

Strawberry Margarita at Takito KitchenDenyce M/Yelp

Takito Kitchen

Located in Wicker Park this modern taqueria serves up some tasty tacos along with some refreshing top-notch margaritas. All of their margaritas are made with fresh fruit and they even make their own rim salts. They make their own salt? Now that is cool!

All of their margaritas can be made in a large size and that will cost you $20. That said, if you stop by for happy hour then that same large drink will only cost you $16. If you want to do a little day drinking, Takito Kitchen might be your spot.

Takito Kitchen is located at 2013 W Division St Chicago, IL 60622

Cesar’s Killer Margaritas

Everyone from Chicago has heard of Cesar’s Killer margaritas…or has at least walked by their vivid neon signage. With over twelve margarita flavors that are as brightly colorful as their signs, they do deliver on their “killer” name. They actually have multiple larger sizes including the large for $12 and the mega for $16! They also have an extensive tequila list, a full bar, and brunch! What’s not to love? Cesar’s has two locations in Lakeview, one on Broadway and one on Clark.

Cesar’s Killer Margaritas is located at 3166 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60657 and 2924 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60657.

No matter where you are thinking about getting a margarita, keep these large options in mind!

Is there another spot in Chicago that is serving up oversized margaritas? Let us know in the Comments below! Cheers!

Food and fun, that is what we love. And we love to find both of those things in our home city of Chicago, the Midwest, and beyond!
