Chicago opens to 100% capacity on June 11th. As Kanye says…”summertime Chi, ahh!”

We’re pumped to be able to fully enjoy the second city once again. Here’s some activities that are back that we’ve got on our docket for summer 2021.

Taking in a music festival.

One of our favorite summertime Chicago activities is attending music festivals. You can find big ones, like Lollapalooza, or smaller neighborhood ones, like Retro on Roscoe.

One of our personal favorites that we’ll be attending this year is the Windy City Smokeout. If you’re a country music fan, the 2021 lineup rivals the best one they’ve ever had. The Smokeout kicks off on Thursday, July 8th with native Illinoisian Brett Eldredge. Friday, July 9th former (and current I suppose) Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker takes the stage to rock like a Wagon Wheel. Saturday, July 10 superstar Direks Bentley headlines, with up and comer Jon Pardi closing things out Sunday night.

All that great country music paired with the smell of delicious BBQ? We. can’t. wait.

Visit a museum

Museums are open once again and we’re excited to check out some of the new exhibits in town.

We’re huge fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and only slightly offended Marvel hasn’t destroyed Chicago in a movie yet…come on Kevin Feige!). The Museum of Science and Industry currently has the exhibition Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes. This exhibition features over 300 artifacts from the comic books to the blockbuster films. It also takes a look at how many of their iconic characters have evolved over their 80 years of existence.

Our spidey-senses are tingling and we’re excited to swing over to the Museum of Science and Industry to check this exhibit out. I’m sure we’ll love it 3000.

This exhibit runs through October 24th.

Lay on the beach

Every year we have a goal. That goal is simple, but challenging. It’s to spend more days on the beach or in a pool than we did they year before.

We’re of the opinion that Summertime-Chi is the best city in the entire world. One of the reasons for that is you can spend your summers laying on the beach, even though you don’t live on the coast by an ocean.

While some snuck to the beach last summer, it was closed. Not anymore.

Take in the Crosstown Classic

Both the Cubs and the White Sox are in first place. Both Wrigley Field and Guaranteed Rate are set to open to 100% of capacity. It’s one of the best rivalries in baseball and when both teams are good, it can get heated.

Despite the fact that the Cubs still retain a large portion of their 2016 World Series core, they feel like the underdogs between the two teams this year. The White Sox have done a tremendous job developing their own talented young players and have clearly taken a step towards being one of the top teams in Major League Baseball.

The teams first meet on the north side for a 3-game series starting Friday, August 6th. They’ll clash again 3 weeks later starting Friday, August 27th on the south side.

A heated Crosstown Classic with two first place teams, full stadiums and plenty of hot dogs is the summertime fun we’ve been waiting for.

Catch a Summer Blockbuster

As you may have read earlier on, we are huge fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Our movie fandom doesn’t stop there though. We love going to blockbuster movies, especially as a way to escape those long hot summer days.

This summer should be action packed as movie theatres open back up. The 9th Fast and Furious movie opens up on Thursday, June 24th. Marvel’s Black Widow finally hits the big screen on July 9th. We’re also excited to see the Rock and Emily Blunt in Disney’s The Jungle Cruise in late July. The backside of water!

While we love the convenience of our streaming services, there is just nothing like seeing a great action flick on the big screen.

What are you looking forward to this summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Food and fun, that is what we love. And we love to find both of those things in our home city of Chicago, the Midwest, and beyond!
