A multi-vehicle pile-up killed 1 person on I-30 in Bowie County (Bowie County, TX)

On early Tuesday morning, one person died following a multi-vehicle accident on I-30 in Bowie County.

According to officials, part of I-30 in Bowie County is expected to remain closed until early afternoon.  Reports revealed that a semi hit a cow and was hit by another semi. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the incident took place at about 3 a.m. between Hooks and Texarkana. As per initial reports, a 2011 Freightliner pulling a trailer was going westbound when it struck a cow and traveled across into the eastbound lane where it was hit by a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu.

The trailer of the Freightliner rolled over across the eastbound lane. A 2005 Freightliner dragging a trailer drove through the rolled-over trailer as a result of which it caught fire. A 2020 Volvo towing trailer was also heading eastbound and veered to the left to avoid the crash but it still hit the detached rear axle of the rolled over trailer.

The driver of the 2005 Freightliner succumbed to their injuries at the scene. On arrival, medics transported the driver of the Chevrolet to an area hospital with non-critical injuries. The driver and passenger of the Volvo were also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 2011 Freightliner did not suffer any injuries. As of late Tuesday morning, I-30 eastbound remained backed up just west of Spur 74 in Bowie County.
