The weather has been gorgeous and with some still keeping social distance in mind, many are opting to dine outdoors. The list is long of patio options in downtown Detroit, but one location may have the biggest patio around and it even overlooks a park. This restaurant is Lumen Detroit. Lumen is located right in Beacon Park and they are known for their amazing food, delicious cocktials, their airy design and giant outdoor seating.
Lumen is a modern restaurant that has a pretty interesting story behind it. We know that DTE created Beacon Park, but what we didn't know is that while they built a restaurant to be a part of it, they didn't have anyone to run it. Birmingham's Griffin Claw Brewing Co. owners, Norm and Bonnie LePage, decided to jump in and do what needed to be done. This couple had always been interested in owning a Detroit restaurant, and when DTE came to them with this opportunity, the LePage couple were ready to take on this possible challenge. Together, Norm, Bonnie and DTE created a modern and chic restaurant with its high ceilings and fun light fixtures along with cool walls that open up to the outside. Actually the lights were maybe even the most important feature here at this restaurant, as the lights are where the name of the restaurant came from. Just like Beacon, Lumen also has to deal with light, which is something DTE is familiar with.
Lumen Detroit offers, what some might call, elevated bar food. Their menu consists of contemporary American cuisine. They do always have fresh new dishes to go along with their menu as well. Now onto the drinks; as Lumen has delicious options including Griffin Claw beer on draft, a wine list and a host of creative signature cocktails, they also offer to-go drinks as well. These drinks are allowed to be sipped anywhere in Beacon Park. Lumen was a space designed for date night, and a place to bring the family. During the summer months, Lumen takes advantage of their awesome patio and has fire pits to enjoy. There is both outdoor street level seating and rooftop options as well. The rooftop seating comes with amazing 360-degree veiws over downtown Detroit and Beacon Park. In the winter months, you'll find heaters and igloos outside, so the patio and rooftop can be enjoyed year-round.
Lumen Detroit is a great location to gather with friends for some sunny rooftop drinks and bites in every season. While the restaurant overlooks Beacon Park, it may be your lucky night as there might be a concert in the park.
