The organization’s client for 2022 is made up of 22% people aged 60 and above. Their programs allow them to give food to approximately 700 clients aged 60 and over every month.
Seniors can be registered to Target Hunger’s program to get a monthly distribution for healthy food each month. Before the pandemic, Target Hunger offered a home delivery service for seniors who could not take the food. Their drivers were sent directly to clients’ homes for food distributions and even allowed to check on seniors if they have special needs.
After the pandemic strikes, Target Hunger is switching to a Drive-Thru Food Distribution for all programs for the sake of the safety of both parties with the help of third-party delivery couriers.
In collaboration with DoorDash through its “DoorDash’s last-mile logistics platform and community of Dashers”, Target Hunger allowed the program to serve more people in the safest way possible.
DoorDash drivers will pick up the food from Target Hunger’s pantry and leave the package at the clients’ doorstep. Thanks to this collaboration, Target Hunger was able to continue to serve seniors through their Day Site Program and even expanded the home delivery to other families in the northeast Houston neighborhood.
Target Hunger is switching back to normal services in light of the current situation, although the DoorDash collaboration will continue operating until 2021.
