We thought we were getting closer to living a normal life without masks and social distancing but, it seems that a new virus has been identified in Michigan.

It is not as bad as the Coronavirus and they seem to have a better grip on how it is spread and how to prevent people from catching it.

Just a few days ago a woman in Michigan has been diagnosed with the first case of Hantavirus which is caused by fresh rodent droppings.

The woman that caught it was cleaning a vacant home, it is unknown if the woman washed her hands after touching the droppings or if it was airborne.

In an article from Fox 2 News called "Michigan confirms first known human case of hantavirus" by Fox 2 Staff elaborated on what Hantavirus is.

Fox 2 Staff stated "The MDHHS said the woman was hospitalized with a serious pulmonary illness but did not state her current condition.

Rodents carry hantavirus and humans are infected when freshly dried contaminated droppings is disturbed and inhaled. It then enters the skin or on mucous membranes when drinking or eating. It can also be transmitted by bites from rodents. The highest risk of the exposure happens when entering or cleaning rodent-infested structures."

As long as you have not been in contact with any rodents then there is a rare chance that you will catch the Hantavirus.

It is also important to continue to wash your hands with gloves on and gloves off, we are able to prevent the spread by taking precautions.
