A new book by Delaware professor and author Anne Boylan entitled Votes for Delaware Women will be released on June 28th.

According to the University of Delaware Press, the book will be the very first "study of the woman suffrage struggle in Delaware, placing it within the rich historical scholarship on the national story." The book examines several historical suffrage organizations that existed in Delaware starting in the late 1800s and looks at how "both white and African American women organized and advocated for 'votes for women.'” It also highlights racial and class issues that impacted the relationship between Black and white suffragists at the time.

Author Anne Boylan is Professor Emerita of History and Women and Gender Studies at the University of Delaware. Boylan is a decorated scholar, having received numerous grants and fellowships, including from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is also an inductee of the Society of American Historians. She has published numerous articles and books on the topic of women's history, as well as cultural history and religion. Her expertise garnered her a role as state coordinator for the Delaware entries included in the online Biographical Dictionary of the Woman Suffrage Movement in the United States.

Boylan's book is being released as part of a new partnership between the University of Delaware Press and Rutgers University Press that was announced this past March. The partnership will see a number of additional book releases on culture and history throughout the rest of 2021 and into 2022.

Votes for Delaware Women is currently available for pre-order in paperback, cloth binding, and an e-book edition.
