Today, a woman wanted for murder was arrested in Denver after her son, seven-year-old Liam Husted was found dead on a hiking trail last month right outside of Las Vegas.
Liam was last reported traveling by his mother, Samantha Morena Rodriguez in a car. He was reported missing after a family member called the police and said that she hadn't seen Liam or Samantha for two weeks. Liam was also confirmed by the heartbroken family member to have special needs, and a Facebook page has been created in his memory since the disappearance.
Authorities have been searching for Samantha since Liam's body was identified.
It has been confirmed that Samantha left San Jose with Liam on May 24, and they traveled to Southern California and then to Nevada. A hiker found Liam's body on May 28th just west of Las Vegas. Investigators immediately believed that his body had been recently placed there and that he was a victim of homicide.
The car that Samantha was last seen driving in California was tracked until it led authorities to a Denver metro area hotel room on May 31st where Samantha checked in alone.
Samantha was taken into custody by the Denver Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force which was led by the FBI earlier this morning.
Samantha is facing murder charges in connection to the death of Liam and she is going to be booked into a Denver metro area jail pending her extradition to Las Vegas.
