(PHILADEPLHIA) Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was fined $75,000 for violating the league's anti-tampering policy.

The fine is due to Morey's comments on Twitter last week related to Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry.

Steph Curry posted a screenshot of his brother Seth following an impressive 30-point game to close out the series against the Washington Wizards in the first round. Morey's text read simply, "join 'em."

A number of social media users then accused Morey of tampering. In response, Morey aimed to clarify his comments by elaborating that he only meant to express gratitude for Seth Curry's performance.

The 76ers were also fined $75,000 for Morey's comments.

Last year, Morey was fined $50,000 for a tweet congratulating James Harden, a player formerly on a team he was general manager of, on the anniversary of a scoring milestone after Harden demanded a trade from Houston.

Morey was also the subject of another NBA controversy when he tweeted support for protesters in Hong Kong in Fall of 2019. As a result of those comments, the Chinese embassy in Houston denounced Morey, as did the owner of his team and the Chinese Basketball Association suspended all cooperation with the Rockets.

In response to that a number of politicians in Texas, both Republican and Democrat, backed Morey's comments.

Warriors executives have indicated they are "pretty confident" that Curry will sign a four-year, $215.4 million extension that would keep him on the Warriors until the 2025-2026 season. Curry has repeatedly talked about finishing his career with the Warriors and has given small indications on social media that he expects the Warriors to return to some championship caliber next season with the likely return of Klay Thompson.
