(SAN DIEGO) On Tuesday, the Biden administration found more than 3,900 children separated from their parents at the U.S. Mexico border under the Trump administration, according to The Associated Press.

The separation occurred under former President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy.

The Biden administration’s Family Reunification Task Force count of children separated from July 1, 2017, to the end of Trump’s presidency is a lower count than the 5,500 children identified by the American Civil Liberties Union in court filings, per AP.

The task force focused on identifying those separated under the zero-tolerance policy, but will into another thousand cases to determine a more accurate number. The discrepancy seems to be from a San Diego federal court ruling that excluded 1,723 children who became separated for other reasons than the zero-tolerance policy.

Of the data provided, nearly 60% of children separated under the policy were Guatemalan, followed by Honduran, Salvadoran and Mexican.
