Summertime isn't complete without a juicy hamburger. When there are so many options for culinary exploration in a city like Chicago, where do you even begin? We've compiled an insider's list of the ten best burger joints in the city for your convenience. Each of these burgers, whether served on an English muffin or topped with fried pickles, offers its own taste and is so good you'll enjoy every bite.

Here are the best burger restaurants in New York:

J.G. Melon, New York

Upper East Siders have been flocking to J.G. Melon for their regular burger fixes. Outside, the fluorescent sign, checkered tablecloths, and kitschy artwork look like they haven't been changed since 1972, but that's just part of J.G. Melon has a charming quality. J.G. Melon's serves a big, juicy burger with tangy American cheese, just the way its regulars like it despite the influx of trendy, experimental burgers in Manhattan. Serve it with bacon and a slice of pecan pie for dessert - you won't regret it. You can't find a better mom-and-pop burger shop in New York than J.G. Melon.

Carnegie John, New York.

Carnegie John's is a New York institution when it comes to street food. Carnegie John's, a cart on 56th Street behind Carnegie Hall, sells the best street burgers in Manhattan: they're massive, oozing with cheese, and only four dollars. We think that the flavor of the burgers is made even better by picking up some of the flavors from the grill, which is why he sells kebabs and other Middle Eastern food. Those sidewalk vendors continue to pass health inspections without a hitch, so don't be scared to buy from them. Be sure to go for a weekday lunch or early dinner, though, since Carnegie John's is open only Monday through Friday and closes at 6 pm.

Closed on Saturdays and Sundays

Donovan's Pub, New York.

Donovan's, located in the historically Irish neighborhood of Woodside, looks like a typical pub, with its wood-paneled dining room, old-timer patrons at the bar, and a menu that includes roast beef and shepherd's pie. But, of course, you already know why you are there, so don't bother looking at the rest of the menu. The big, juicy, messy burger is made from loosely-cut New York strip steaks and is easily the city's best pub burger. Instead, you can spend the rest of the evening chatting with the regulars at this laid-back pub that feels far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Saturdays - Sundays from 11 am to Midnight

Resto, New York.

Resto in Gramercy shows there's more to Belgian food than waffles and Brussels sprouts. A small, chic restaurant makes excellent moules fries and 'Belgian hangover pasta,' and with its creative and diverse menu, many might choose not to order burgers. However, you should not make that mistake: go ahead and order it. It is deliciously fatty and made from local beef and pork. It is topped with Gruyere cheese and melts in your mouth. They are also thin, crisp, and tasty. Fine dining experiences at this restaurant are reasonably priced. There are also a plethora of beers and wines to wash all the goodness down.

Saturdays from 10 am to 11:30 pm;

Sundays from 10 am to 10:30 pm

Pianos, New York

The Red Wine Burger from Pianos is so outstanding that we had to include it here, even though they aren't exactly a burger place in the traditional sense. Formerly a piano store, this bar offers live comedy, bands, D.J.s, and a killer happy hour to the Lower East Side crowd. There are several exciting and delicious burgers on the menu, including the Grand Piano Burger with Emmental cheese and a secret tomato sauce and the Gaucho Burger with chimichurri sauce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Crowd favorites, however, are the Red Wine Burgers. We rate this burger as one of the best in New York because it is topped with bacon and caramelized onions, an infusion of red wine, and black pepper. Pianos are the place to go for a great burger and a fun night out. During happy hour, the house burger is only five dollars.
