An armed homeowner in New Orleans had to deal with an unexpected encounter on Thursday night. The police revealed that a suspect tried to get inside the house and attempted to assault the owner. The encounter turned out deadly for the invader.

The location of the incident was in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the French Quarter neighborhood.

How did it all happen?

The Times-Picayune and the New Orleans Advocate have reported on Friday that the suspect entered a home in the French Quarter at around 7 p.m. local time and lunged toward the owner. The intruder has been identified by WVUE-TV as 29-year-old Matthew Clark.

The homeowner, who has not been charged with any count at this time, has chosen not to have his identity made public.

Neighbors told police officers that they saw a man who seemed to have been intoxicated while he was yanking at several door handles along the block.

Two witnesses have stated that they heard the suspect banging his fists on the doors and that he looked drunk and barely able to stand on his feet.

The suspect soon arrived at the house that would turn out to be his final destination. He started pounding on the door, which is when the homeowner took his gun and went to open.

At that moment the suspect allegedly lunged toward the owner who, in turn, used his gun, and fatally wounded him.

“The owner is not facing any charges based on the investigation and circumstances of this incident,” a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson said for the news outlets.
“I mean these things happen but again it's Thursday night at 6 o'clock with a drizzle and you don't expect something like that to go down. Hearing bits and pieces of what happened. But it's unfortunate regardless,” area resident Dereck "Woody" Terry told WVUE-TV about the New Orleans incident.
