On Sunday night, a popular cafe in San Francisco was turned into an unsavory view for everyone walking by and dining out. The Jewish-owned eatery located in the Mission District had its walls full of hateful words.
Anyone walking outside Manny’s during the weekend was shocked by the terrible messages left on its walls. Big blue letters spelled hate and intolerance and such messages were disturbing and saddening at the same time, as Fox News reports.
“It bums me out. It’s right next to my Yoga studio Love Story and that’s how it should be. Everyone should feel welcome,” Kristen Meyer of Pacifica said.
“It’s not comfortable to see these messages. At the same time, I’m used to seeing a lot of graffiti in the Mission,” said Dan Kennedy of San Francisco.
The numbers in San Francisco show that hate crimes are spiking in 2021. 28 hate crimes have been reported so far, which means that such an incident happens every five and a half days.
“We are here to announce that we are introducing a multilingual hate crime tip line,” San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott stated.
The tip line (415) 558-5588 has been expanded to accept callers speaking nine languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Thai.
“We all recognize that hate does not discriminate, hate affects all of us," APAPA Chair Dennis Wu said for Fox News.
"We hope that this will help us solve some of the hate that’s going on in our community which is totally unacceptable,” Chief Bill Scott added.
“I think there are a lot of people who are afraid to report, either English isn’t their first language, or they are afraid of the police as well. Trying to work on building stronger communities and helping with infrastructure I think is a major thing. A lot of these hate crimes are coming from ignorance and fear,” Sarah Talpas from San Francisco shared.
